Andon

Shedding Light on Japanese Art

The Society's magazine is called Andon. The magazine is mailed only to members of the SJA, a separate subscription is not possible. See the membership section about how to become a member. It is however possible for non-members to order back issues of Andon as well.

Andon was first published in 1981. Since then over 85 issues have been sent to our members. The bulletin contains illustrated articles on various aspects of Japanese art as well as book reviews. Among its regular contributors are scholars such as John Carpenter, Jan Dees, Jan van Doesburg, John Fiorillo, Susanne Formanek, Matthi Forrer, Roger Keyes, Heinz & Else Kress, Sepp Linnhart, Hendrick Lühl, Ellis Tinios and Peter Ujlaki.

The editorial board of Andon consists of Henk Herwig (editor-in-chief), Robert Schaap (also design and production), Dick Raatgever, Marion Jekel and Anna Beerens. Back Issues of Andon

A limited number of back issues of Andon are still available for members and non-members at € 5,- per issue. Old issues preceeding no. 75 are only € 3,-. The Enjaku special edition and the Osaka double issue 72/73 however are € 10,- each. The Japan Tattoo edition is available for non-members at € 19,50. Prices exclude Postage & Packing.
